About Us
Taylor Memorial Methodist Church – is one of the oldest and biggest Methodist Churches in Mumbai under the Mumbai Regional Conference of the Methodist Church in India. The Rev. William Taylor – an American Missionary, In the 19th century was led in spirit to build this magnificent edifice which has stood the test of time and weather for over a hundred years.
Taylor Church was erected in place of the Mazagaon Methodist Church and consecrated in the year 1906. Today we offer our sincere thanks and deep gratitude to our Sovereign Lord who has kept this magnificent edifice in good shape, subject to the minor repairs and maintenance, for over a period of 100 years!!
The church's pointed steeple is a landmark. Over the years the steeple’s cover had peeled off the worn-out colour coatings only to reveal the beauty of the original structure. The church was built in Gothic Revival style - a very popular style of construction during mid-19th century and later on as well. The restoration of the Church took place in the year 2006 during its centenary year of celebrations and is an indication of transition of the Gothic revival style into the modern era. But the place surrounding the church has developed over the years. This beautiful church was in a quiet place once upon a time. Though the area has developed commercially, the original style, décor and grandeur of the church stands to be maintained.
The building is centrally located with two wings, one on the South and the other on the North sides and inside the sanctuary is a balcony on the first floor directly viewing the altar. The Parsonage is located on the second floor, above which, on the third floor is a Guest House. The church has ample space around with a beautiful small garden.
Inside the sanctuary, is the serene and peace-glowing altar in the center – with the reading table and the pulpit on either side of the altar. Tablets and Plaques of the some of the missionaries/evangelists and pastors are embedded on either side of the main walls of the Sanctuary as a depiction of honor and memory toward them and their contribution. A tablet of the Taylor Church is erected and embedded at the right side of the entrance of the Church.
